In every organisation, people can experience moments of grief. Providing the right support during these periods can be an integral part of your role as an e.g. HR professional. Grief can manifest in two ways: as ‘uncomplicated’ or ‘normal’ grief, and as ‘complicated’ grief. This latter form may show symptoms akin to depression, such as sadness, insomnia, decreased appetite, and weight loss.

It’s crucial to recognise that the experience and expression of loss and grief can vary depending on different cultural backgrounds. In essence, comprehending and effectively dealing with loss and grief is a skill that enables every HR manager and leader to create a supportive and empathetic work environment.
